Welcome back to another episode of the Conscious Design Podcast and today Ian welcomes Pallavi Pande. Pallavi first introduces herself and what she does. She then explains how her business is based on reusing something that can essentially be classified as waste and replacing a lot of chemicals in the production process. Pallavi then shares what made her company grow so rapidly in a seemingly short period. Ian and Pallavi also talk about how she has used the potential of B2B partnerships for her business and how that has helped her. Pallavi then explains how she has motivated her partners in business to use more of her product and what were the key drivers of sales but also how she motivates her workforce. Pallavi ends the episode by talking more about where she sees her future and where people can find her.
Parts
Pallavi wanted to bring this concept to the western world when she remembered eating on banana leaves while growing up in India. She started her brand DTOCS, inspired by the word “detox”: a cleansing journey with palm leaves for the environment; with these 3 things in mind – sustainability, usability and community.
DTOCS is a sustainable BIPOC women-owned small business. They created sustainable single-use disposable dinnerware made from naturally fallen palms for households, food and hospitality industry, handcrafted by women artisans in India. They also give back 1% of their proceeds to the majority female workforce community who manufactures their products in India because they are in this together making a collective pact.
